Leonard Cohen is 71
I read recently that Leonard Cohen had just celebrated his 71st birthday. I know there are some who would say he is lucky to have survived that long singing the songs he does, but I’m not one of those.
Nor am I one of those who says he’s not as good as he used to be. And I’ve recently read critics saying this about the Stones and Dylan, and I don’t agree with them either.
I feel these are singers I have grown up with and I don’t expect them to be how they were 10 years ago or 40 years ago. I hope I’ve changed a bit in 40 years as well.
From my perspective, they are neither better nor worse than they were. They are just as they are and that has to be good enough.
Hopefully they are choosing who they want to be and care a lot less what people think about it. I know I am.
